Materials:

1. Suntuf 3.6m Clear Corrugated Polycarbonate Roofing

2. Selley's Translucent Roof And Gutter Silicone Sealant

3. Class 3 Polycarbonate Roofing Screws

Tools:

1. Chalk string (to mark out the cut line on the clear panel)

2. Ozito Angle Grinder, preferably with a diamond blade

3. Ryobi Drill (or any drill you have)

4. Hexagon Head Driver Socket Bit

5. Caulking Gun

How we did it:

1. Measure your roofing area and decide which panel size will suit your needs. There's lots of different colours and profiles to choose from, not just clear and corrugated.

2. We needed 3.1 metre panels to create a full length of 6.2 metres. Given the 3 metre panels were not long enough, we got 4 x 3.6 metre panels and cut them down to size. Larger panels are also harder to transport.

3. We Used a Ryobi drill with a Hex Head Driver Socket Bit to remove the existing screws from the panels (which we reused).

4. We marked out the cut line on the clear panel with chalk string and used an Ozito Angle Grinder to cut the clear sheeting. Our cuts weren't perfect (looked slightly melted so we tidied it up with a Stanley knife) so best to use a diamond bit.

5. To secure the panels, we lifted the lip of the existing roofing to slip the clear panel back under, joined the two lengths of roofing together with Selley's Translucent Roof And Gutter Silicone Sealant and screwed them into the timber with Class 3 Polycarbonate Roofing Screw using a Ryobi Drill with a Hexagon Head Driver Socket Bit.

Cost

Total cost was about $220 for materials. We didn't need new tools as we borrowed what we didn't already have from a neighbour.

The little rubber hood on these screws is crucial so make sure you grab some if you want to try this yourself.
